The first in a series of two-part vases, the Scalloped Inversion Vase explores form and texture. Inspiration is taken from both natural and architectural worlds, and informs the surface treatments and resulting shadows. The inevitable movement created through shifting shadows and patterns invites the viewer to experience all angles of the vessel.

Each vase is initially thrown on the wheel in two parts, then carved or punctured, and joined together. Texture is created through precise mark making and is an exercise of rhythmic repetition.

The light green clay body is stained by hand and the exterior of the vase is exposed and unglazed. The interior of the vase features a gloss glaze to ensure functionality.
