Tile Commission, 2025

Interior tiles for a residential kitchen splash-back with demolished bricks freckled throughout the clay body

Handmade ceramic interior wall tiles, created using studio reclaim clay (part of the studio recycling process) and brick demolition debris (5-7%) from Fitzroy. The tiles are sanded to reveal the brick within, unglazed and sealed with Liquid Quartz Sealer. The brief called for impervious and cleanable tiles made using 100% second-life materials if possible. The colour range to aim for was browns and earthy tones complimentary to Blackbutt timber.

A precise quantity of 146 whole tiles plus 2 half tiles were created, so no tile cutting is necessary on site.
